Why do we always need to “sit down” before we can plan anything?
I can't stand (no pun intended) when someone says, “We need to sit down and…” What the fuck does sitting have to do with anything? Are we specifically pulling chairs up to a table? Is the position of our bodies a crucial part of this process? Why did you feel the need to announce it?
Just say, “We need to plan…” That communicates the entire idea. “Sit down and” is completely superfluous. Half the time, I doubt they even intend for us to sit down. It feels like a stock phrase people repeat because that’s how they think they’re supposed to say it.
Even if we are going to sit, why mention it? We will presumably also breathe and blink while planning, but nobody says, “We need to breathe, blink, and plan next month’s schedule.” Our physical position could not matter less.
Every time somebody says it, my brain immediately goes: Why sitting? Why is it always sitting? What is your fucking infatuation with sitting?
