Wrong hotel room. Wrong man in the bed. He looked up and said, “You’re late.” Then he pulled me down.

Venting

Throwaway. This cannot get out.
I’m at a work conference. Exhausted, slightly tipsy from the networking drinks, and the front desk handed me a key that supposedly worked. I walked into the dark room, dropped my bag, and whispered “Finally” to myself.
A deep voice answered from the bed.
“You’re late.”
I froze. The lamp clicked on.
It was him. The guy I’d been stealing glances at all night during the welcome reception. Tall, sharp jaw, the kind of quiet confidence that makes you look twice. He was shirtless, sheets low on his hips, and he didn’t look surprised to see me. He looked like he’d been waiting.
I stammered something about the wrong room. He sat up slowly and said,
“The key worked for a reason. Front desk must’ve mixed us up… or maybe I told them to.”
My brain screamed leave. My feet didn’t move.
He stood up, walked over, and stopped just close enough that I could feel the heat coming off him. Voice low:
“Tell me to stop and I’ll walk you to the right room myself.
Or stay.”
I stayed.
It was reckless and quiet and so intense I forgot what floor I was on. At one point he had me against the window, city lights behind me, mouth at my ear whispering things that made my knees weak. We barely slept. Every time one of us tried to be responsible, the other pulled them back under.
Around 5 a.m. we were still tangled up when his phone buzzed on the nightstand.
A calendar reminder lit up the screen:
“Breakfast meeting — 8:00 a.m.
With [my full name] and the rest of the acquisition team.”
I stared.
He’s the lead investor.
The one my company has been trying to impress for months.
And I’m the junior analyst who was supposed to help pitch him in three hours.
He looked at the phone, then at me, and actually laughed under his breath.
“Well. This is about to get interesting.”
He kissed the corner of my mouth one last time and murmured,
“See you at breakfast, partner.
Try to look like we didn’t just do that.”
I still haven’t decided if I’m going to act normal…
or walk in there and let him see it all over my face.
He just texted from the room next door:
“Door’s still open if you want round three before the meeting.”
