My managers didn’t want to talk about something in front of me?
I have two managers, and I was in their office just working on my laptop while they were working on theirs. Lets call one Manager A and Manager B. The two managers were talking about someone new they’re looking to hire at my company. We’re hiring two people for two separate roles because rn we’re quite understaffed, and it needs to be done urgently. One of them is someone who will have the same role as me, to replace an employee who’s going to be leaving soon in a few weeks.
Manager A was talking about having to wait to give the offer letter until they can check references or something like that. And then Manager B told her to not or something else I couldn’t quite figure it out because I was busy working on my laptop. Then it was suddenly quiet and I could see, from the corner of my eye, Manager B subtly trying to signal something to my Manager A, maybe some kinda signal about me or how I’m here? Then she said “we can just talk about this later”.
Anyway, I’m just now panicking because idk what it was that they didn’t want to talk about in front of me. I got hired here a few months ago, so I’m still kinda new. When I got hired, they also asked for references and reached out to them. And now they were talking about the new hire and about checking her references, and something about that they didn’t want to talk about in front of me and I just can’t understand why? I don’t know what this means, like are they looking to fire me soon? Was there a problem with my references they’ve recently found out or some other issue. I just can’t wrap my head around what it was they didn’t wanna talk about in front of me.
Can someone just give me some advice or just something to help me stop spiraling? I’m feeling anxious and thinking they don’t like me or they’re looking to fire me one day. I passed my probationary period but I could still get fired. Or what if they’re going to demote me? Idk
