When should I stop sleeping with them...
Hey everyone,
I got two little ones (4 and 3) and currently, they sleep in the same room and I sleep with them. This was not always the case. I sleep trained my first at around 9 months but he was never a good sleeper and every 3-4 months, I'd fine myself "retraining" him as he went through growth spurts. Then came my second and he was a good sleeper, until they started sleeping in the same room (they're very close and insisted on it when my little guy turned 18 months).
But then began the co-sleeping. Between the nightmares, growth spurts, sleep regressions etc, none of us was getting any sleep. And so I decided to just put a mattress down and sleep with them at night.
Mind you, I was the one who resisted co-sleeping for a while! But when I did give in, everything changed. We all sleep better. I get endless snuggles in the morning and sometimes in the middle of the night. They're still young that they want to climb in the bed with me looking for comfort when they have a bad dream and it's honestly the best damn feeling. I personally really enjoy this bit. I know I'm their entire universe and it feels so special.
And before you ask, my marriage is just fine. My husband is a deep sleeper and he doesnt mind one bit that I sleep with the kids because we always have lots of together time before bed. And we all do sleep better with less midnight disruptions.
Now, here is my issue. At what point am I developing bad habits if I keep sleeping with them? I mean, they're only 4 and 3 so I'm hoping I get a couple more years. But some people have started telling me to let them sleep Independently and it's bad for them etc etc.
Please be kind. But I'm looking for advice based on personal experience. I don't want to create bad habits. But I also know I will never get this time back. So I'm trying to enjoy every bit of it.
Tldr; mom currently co-sleeping with 4 and 3 year old. And loving it. But at what point should I stop because it will create a bad habit? Or will it?
