Anyone experienced a BIR officer offering to file your unfiled taxes?

Currently processing the closure of a business that hasn’t been operating for around 5 years. My parents were the ones who managed everything before, and unfortunately, taxes were not properly filed. I honestly know very little about the tax side of the business.

When I went to BIR, the officer handling my compliance initially showed me open cases amounting to ₱30k+, but after I explained my situation, he reduced it to around ₱15k.

He also told me that he could handle/file the tax returns I haven’t filed yet, supposedly from 2018 up to present, and said those cannot be discounted. He told me to just transact with him directly and not tell anyone about it, although he wasn’t exactly being discreet since people at the other tables could probably hear him.

My main worry now is whether I should actually go through with it. I don’t have the old receipts, journals, books of accounts, or other records anymore since my parents were the ones who managed the business, so I honestly don’t know what figures he would use for the unfiled returns. I’m scared that he might file amounts higher than what the business actually earned, which could leave me with a much bigger tax due on top of the open cases.

I’m also worried about giving him money for the filings/penalties and later finding out that some returns were never actually filed, or the payments were not properly posted under my TIN. Since he told me to transact directly with him, I’m not sure what official receipts, confirmation, or proof I should be asking for after every filing/payment.

Has anyone experienced something similar when closing an old/non-operating business with years of unfiled returns?

PS. I know how things can be with BIR, but I just wanna clear everything under my name and finally close this business.
