Resident geese

I’m looking to hunt resident geese for the first time this sept. Does anyone have any tips? I’m checked out a few bigger ponds/lakes that have a lot of short grass around it but have only seen like 2 geese at one spot miday so far? Is it better to check rivers? I don’t have access to any hunting fields.
