It's still a school uniform, so what's the problem?

Need Reassurance...

Today I had a discussion about my uniform with school staff. I'm struggling specifically with the girls pants because in our school, both the girls pants and skirts are checkered while the boys uniform has brown pants.

I know checkered design itself isn't inherently feminine but in our school it's associated with the girls uniform and that association makes me uncomfortable.

I wouldn't mind buying and wearing the boys brown pants since they're still an actual school uniform but I was told no. But the guys have worn pants that weren't given to our school though, off-brown or black and even jeans but I'll check later in a few weeks if it changes.

What really frustrated me was the arguments they first gave was that allowing me to wear them would be seen as favoritism. Following up with that I've been wearing the girls uniform for years, so they don't understand why I can't continue wearing it. 💀

I don't remember the rest of their arguments right now, I feel exhausted since we have this discussion after exams and I fucked up with one of them.

I've also tried explaining that this isn't really about choosing pants over a skirt. I specifically want the brown pants because they're the same pants used in the boys uniform. I genuinely wouldn't have an issue if both uniforms simply had the same-colored bottoms.

I feel like I'm crazy. I know it might seem like a small thing but it genuinely makes me feel dysphoric. Just because other gay/trans students are okay with wearing the girls uniform or haven't complained about it doesn't mean I experience it the same way or the issue doesn't exist

Rules are rules they say, but is it really crazy for me to ask to at least just wear the male uniform they provide or the brown pants?
