Is affordable, regular sparkling water available in Vietnam?
I’ve been living in Vietnam for almost six months, and I still haven’t managed to find normal sparkling water anywhere.
To be clear, I’m not looking for soda, tonic water, flavored water, sugar, sweeteners, or any other additives. I just want ordinary water with some carbonation - preferably only lightly carbonated.
The only option I’ve found so far is a 750 ml bottle of San Pellegrino for around 100,000 VND. Paying approximately €3.30 for less than a liter of water feels like a complete rip-off.
Vietnam is the first country I’ve visited where I haven’t been able to find basic sparkling water at a normal price. In other parts of Asia, Europe, and the Americas, it’s usually an inexpensive everyday product. If 1.5 liters of still water costs up to around 20,000 VND, I would expect sparkling water to cost something similar - or perhaps slightly more. I’d happily pay 30,000–40,000 VND for a 1.5-liter bottle.
Am I missing something? Is affordable, plain sparkling water sold under a Vietnamese brand or a name I don’t recognize? If so, what exactly should I search for, and where can I buy it?
