Should we niche our agency down this early?

Question

Should we niche our agency down this early?

My friend and I both currently work full time at a marketing agency, and we’re starting our own creative marketing agency. We’re not new to client work, but this is our first time building an agency ourselves.

We want to offer branding, websites and monthly marketing. We’re both interested in sports and wellness, and we think focusing on that space would make the agency easier to understand and market.

The main reason we’re hesitant is our network. Through friends, family and family friends, we know a lot of wealthy business owners across different industries. Some of our first opportunities could come from those connections, so it feels risky to position ourselves too narrowly this early.

Our services currently look like this, simplified:

Brand Essentials

  • Primary logo
  • Colour palette
  • Typography
  • Visual direction
  • Mini brand guide

Full Branding

  • Brand strategy
  • Full logo system
  • Complete visual identity
  • Supporting graphics
  • Photography and social direction
  • Full brand guidelines

Websites

  • Landing pages or full websites
  • Custom design and development
  • Mobile optimisation
  • Basic SEO and analytics

Starter Monthly Package

  • We provide scripts and content direction
  • The client records the footage
  • We edit and create 4–6 posts each month
  • Management of one social platform
  • Paid ads on one platform

Main Growth Package

  • One full-day shoot at the client’s business each month
  • 8–10 pieces of content
  • Management of two social platforms
  • New ad creatives
  • Paid advertising
  • Email or LINE marketing
  • Customer retention campaigns

Does this sound like too much for a new agency? Should we simplify or remove anything?

Would it be better to position ourselves as a sports and wellness agency while still accepting work from other industries through our network? Or should we stay broad until we have more experience?

Would appreciate any honest feedback.
