Sony is incredibly short-sighted in Business stratrgy
They often do tests and experiments and make very grandiose business decisions based on them, looking only at profit instead of actually looking at the expirement and seeying what went wrong/what can improve:
Example:
3 successful playstation platformers.
Ratchet sold well => continue => ratchet movie bad => slowed down ratchet development in favor of other titles => marvel sold good => focus on marvel => Ratchet ip moves to the background (we get a game now like every 7-10 years? Hopefully)
Sly 4 by other studio => mid => cancelled the series even though there is a large demand and fanbase
Jak and daxter spinoff by other studio => bad product, poor sales => cancelled the series even though there is a large demand and fanbase
Like sure money was bigger elsewhere but they choose not to persue mid-sized profits at the same time.
Xbox recently did the oppsite. Age of empiress 3 (the least popular one)'s dlc was cancelled last year to focus on aoe2 and 4. The community kept passionate and the (rather small) player base kept stable. The new xbox management gave the game resources again knowing profits won't be insane but there is a passionate crowd left super satisfied buying new dlc.
