Can I carry on my ice skates on a move to Spain?

Moving to Spain next week. Advanced ice skater. I was planning to carry all my “expensive” items in my carry on for protection but now reading online it seems like I can’t carry my skates in my carryon. I am taking a direct flight from the US to Spain. I am not coming back for a year. I know USA TSA may let me carry it on but I fear it might be different for international flights? Or entering the country I may get screened? My skates are custom made and $2k+ so I don’t want to risk loosing them.
