Will I ever find another good job?
I had a job in sales that was so good for me. I started off at the bottom and was promoted to assistant general manager after a year. My boss didn't want to train me, so I literally would watch movies in my office. One day, he rage quit and gave me the keys.
They didn't want to promote me to GM, so they went looking for someone else, which I totally understood. Three months later, they found somebody, and I had been uncomfortably running the store for three months, and our numbers went from worst in the company to middle of the pack. I was very proud of myself.
The new guy GM was a retired CEO who bought failing businesses, made them profitable, and then sold them. He seemed like a natural fit. Unfortunately, he didn't want to do any work, and he wouldn't learn. I complained to my regional manager who told me the new guy would take half the work off my plate. He said he would keep an eye on it.
My regional manager was one of the most inspiring and knowledgeable guys I've ever met. He was my mentor. But he was promoted to corporate and assured me the new regional manager would help me out with this new boss that made inspirational speeches but was otherwise worthless. Unfortunately, after three months, my new boss still hadn't learned how to do anything, I was becoming overwhelmed, and when I complained to the new regional manager, he told me he would keep an eye on it.
About a month later, the new GM held a meeting, and I could tell he was pissed off and about to throw me under the bus to our sales staff, so I hit record on my phone. I caught him slandering the company, his bosses, me, and giving horrible advice to our staff. I drafted an email to my regional with clips of him saying these things, to which they told me it was probably illegal to record him without his knowledge, and that I need to "get in line or get out."
I went back to my old regional and told him about the conversation but he didn't want to hear it. After running the store by myself for months, someone from corporate came by to train new hires. He and I sat at a table outside of my bosses office working. After about three hours of sitting there, he leaned in and said "I haven't heard a phone conversation from his office, any mouse clicks, or any key strokes. What does he do in there all day?" I was elated someone from corporate would see firsthand how useless he was. Finally someone in corporate would be on my side.
Of course, nothing happened. Eventually, after nine months, I got sick of everything and quit without notice. My regional manager probably called me five times for an exit interview, but I wouldn't give him one. Eventually my old mentor called me and we talked for like two hours. Everyone at my old job said they would miss me and not to worry because someone with my skills and passion would quickly find another job, or a better job.
I now make way less money at another soul sucking job that stressed me out so bad yesterday that I was shaking, and it's been this bad for almost a year. I've had about a dozen interviews, and none of them ever went anywhere. I'm losing all hope.
