Was anybody else given an eating disorder by their caretakers?
When I was little, eating in moderation was never taught to me. I vividly remember the only things my grandparents and father bought for me to eat were huge fast food meals, variety chip box packs, multi-litre sodas, and other extremely unhealthy foods which led to me being overweight at a young age. After my grandparents passed, my dad would not teach me to cook and rarely cooked himself, and would let me doordash every day for food. He would encourage me to get a lot and would shame me if I didn't get enough or couldn't finish what I ordered, even when I told him that I was full.
I proceeded to develop a binge eating disorder through middle and highschool where I would order these $40+ meals from local fast food places and eat thousands of calories in one sitting until my stomach hurt and I either passed out in a food coma, or vomited. Afterwards, I'd have horrible stomach cramps until I had diarrhea. Another symptom was me subconsciously associating not feeling full with being hungry, which I didn't even realize until I got hospitalized for the first time and hated the hospital food so I refused to eat it and then TRULY felt hungry. At the time, stuffing my face with fast food was sometimes the only way I could feel anything.
Any similar stories from those who had an eating disorder taught or promoted by their caretaker/parents?
