How do you see the roles of a father and a mother in a parenthood having evolved with time? And how do you feel about it?

Men Asking Women 💬

Myself from a very "traditional" family, my father did all the guys stuff, my mother did do all the chores. My father did decide most and was much a patriarch. While I do love him, now 88 yo, I still really hated their division of work, my mum was not at all pleased and beside the obvious egalitarian aspect, she did not ever show me much love.

So I did never have any interest in anything but strong, capable girls and I married a woman who now makes much more money than me and we share chores (including fixing stuff that breaks down, keeping the contact with craftsmen and those things guys normally do).

But - the thing that separate us, where I see that I do take the role similar to my father, is in how we raised our (now adult) children. While my wife gave them love and support I was very much the one who insisted on they becoming good citizens. To refrain from impulses, accepting short negatives for future better goods. Being fair. And my wife did surprise me the other day by saying that she really appreciated me taking that role.

What is your view on this?
