Is location filtering not a thing?

Out of curiosity after my regular job let out for the day, I took a one-hour block that ended up taking me 25 miles opposite the way I came. Do drivers not have the option to filter or is each block completely blind? Thanks to all.

(For L.A. drivers, a pickup from DTLA took me to the South Bay when I live in SGV. I also work in the South Bay.)
