New job announcement brushed aside
I got a new job today! It was a pretty quick process, I’m hoping it’s because they were really impressed by my resume and performance in the interview (I have to say, I am perfectly aligned with the job). I was having a really flat and low energy day. I’ve recently moved back home with my mum (F23) who is pretty emotionally needy. I was really flat and I felt like she just kept trying to get me to give more from the second I woke up.
Anyway, I got the job and she walked by just as I was hanging up the call. I told her I got the job, she smiled and said congrats and kissed the top of my head. Then she started talking about her health and how she’s nauseous today. And then she said “now you’re in a better mood, could you please do these two jobs”.
Man. I know this is needy but that was so disappointing. I would have liked some more recognition, but mainly, to have not just carried on with more that I need to do. And to bring up that she’s seen im in a bad mood. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that she thought she was being nice/doing the right thing not asking me to do those jobs when she could tell im upset. But it also means she could tell i was upset and was still asking for more emotional energy from me.
I’m the type of person who will buy her flowers and chocolates and do chores etc when she doesnt feel good. And when I don’t do that, she TELLS ME she’s disappointed. In the past I might have told her I was disappointed, but sadly, I’ve kind of given up. She will go on the defence straight away and make me feel like a terrible person for needing that. Which is ironic because she’s the one who has the same, actually HIGHER expectations, and has taught me to feel this way.
There’s a lot of way bigger issues in our relationship that aren’t hurting or bothering me as much as this really is. And I feel really sad that I no longer feel like I can talk about it with her. I think it’s just managed to hit some sensitive spots, that are too sensitive to be vulnerable to getting hurt again.
