Is the drug scene still pretty bad or has it gotten any better?
For context, I'm from DSM and I stayed at ASAC for about 9 months back in the early 2010s to get off opiates and it's been a success.
ANYWAY, when I came to CR I was fascinated by how much more crime and ravaged by drugs in general than DSM seemed to be. Like CR has police helicopter that would fly over SW & NE sides, DSM hasn't had that since, maybe ever? Maybe the 80s or 90s but I think not...
I remember from my fellow guests from CR that heroin was already very widely available in Eastern Iowa, meanwhile in DSM it was still pretty rare to find or if you did find it it was dogshit and expensive, I was only ever to readily get oxy's myself in DSM until about 2014/15 which is actually when i moved back to DSM from CR.
Just wondering if it has gotten any better? It seemed like it was on a trajectory to only get worse. I remember I would hear constantly that folks were coming from IL en masse at the time due to some kind of special state program IA had that IL didn't but I just can't remember the specifics now. ALways thought it was racist dogwhistle stuff but then again I didn't live their permanently, and these people telling me did, so who am I to question them
Also long-shot question with this, if anyone knew the staff at ASAC around 2013, there was some guy who was a former judge in the area who had been fired for drinking or something and he ended up getting a regular staff job at ASAC. That dude was COOL AS FUCK, super humble guy for going from judge to low-run staff at a drug facility, and I can't remember his name but if anyone happens to know who I'm talking about you don't need to tell me his name, but if you see him tell him some random dude on the internet said thanks for being really cool like 15 years ago
