The abused child to military enrollment to child abuser pipeline

Vent / Rant

This video on the marine core's boot camp practices gave me an insight into what my father, a child neglected and abused by his own parents, may have experienced when he enrolled in the "abusive household speedrun" that is joining the marine core as a result of having nowhere else to go at eighteen. As someone puts it in the comments, "literally a whole industry built on emotionally torturing teenagers who feel they have no other options for their future."

Guess who got screamed at like I was a recruit who messed up in front of my drill instructor for as far back in my childhood as I can remember? Who got told to "shut up and obey him" deep into my teenage years? Who got beat across the face for showing weakness or vulnerability? Why does a grown ass man have beef with a four year old child who he thinks is "manipulating" him when they cry? Why does he justify rape and genocide when it's some corrupt white American man doing it? Why does he put the burden of his anger and pain on the only family he has left?

More and more folk are seeing the U.S. military system for what it is, not just a tool to break down children and mold them into weapons of the state, but also a way to have them go home and keep their families scared and hurting and pretending like everything is okay too, so one day they can send in new, broken, obedient recruits who want to be just like their daddy.

(Disclaimer: I'm obv not an expert on this topic or U.S. military tactics, I just had a bit of a realization that I think others might be able to relate to. I think it helps to understand but not necessarily forgive, not until we're ready.)
