Is it normal for my orthodontist to put a wire on only one side of my lower teeth?

Is it normal for your orthodontist to put the wire only on the left side of your lower teeth? I noticed there was some extra wire, so I tried to cut it, but I accidentally pulled the wire and it came out of one of the brackets. I put it back into the bracket, but now I’m worried that something is wrong 😭. Could my orthodontist have intentionally left the right side without a wire, or did they forget to fully attach it?
