Improving A-E assessments

Foundation Training

Hi,

I was asked to see a patient with hypoxia. It was me and the nurse in the bay initially.

I start my A-E.
I found it terribly exhausting because I had to multi task and do A-E at the same time. The nurse left before I noticed.
Had to rush to get the equipment necessary for the bloods and ABG (I usually have the equipment with me if I suspect I’ll need it but forgot this time). Managed to get bloods, but no ABG. Patient was somewhat stable for a bit so requested a portable CXR and ABG via H@N. It got to the point where I realised if she became even sicker or went into cardiac arrest, I would not manage so called the night nurse to help with bloods, and called 2222 for medical assistance. Patient ended up okay. However, I felt very unsatisfied with my A-E. How would you approach this situation when you’re by yourself at night?

I can’t describe it but it felt very hard and over complicated.

It could’ve gone so wrong.
