Why does my yard waste cans smell like death? Is it because I drilled holes in the bottom?

I don't want to be that guy but right now I am. I'm ready to set both my cans on fire and be done with it. They stink so bad...

So, both have lids, which I use but I also drilled holes in the bottom. My thoughts were, it would allow moister build up to drain from the bottom. Could that be the cause?

Clippings are pretty dry but I notice if I remove the lid the next day, there's already a ton of moister build up on the underside of the lid. Not sure if I should leave it off or not.

FWIW, I live in a high humidity area.
