Learned my new company doesn’t offer a 401k match, best way to proceed?
My wife and I have about 1 million in our 401ks combined , I am 37 wife is 32. 2 small children (3 and 1). I recently started a new job but didn’t realize that they do not offer a 401k match, my previous employer did. Obviously disappointed, but here I am.
question:
my goal is to retire at 55, but I need money to bridge me to when I can withdraw from my 401k without major penalty.
I have a brokerage account holding only VOO that I started a couple of years ago that has 67k in it. This is a sort of all purpose fund that’s supposed to be the kids college education and other life expenses, also that bridge fund I’m talking about to get me from 55-67. Should I not contribute at all to the 401k and just contribute what I would have to my brokerage account for a year or 2? Or do what I always did and contribute to the 401k without getting a match?
I don’t think we qualify for an IRA due to our income (250k for me and 250k for my wife, total 500k income)
Thanks
