Unpopular Opinion: You Don't Need Permission From Anyone to Build a Self-Led Life
Creating a Self-Led Life
I spent years waiting. Waiting for my husband to notice I needed help. Waiting for my parents to finally choose me first. Waiting for someone, anyone, to give me permission to prioritize my own life.
Here's the honest truth: that permission was never coming, because it was never anyone else's to give. A self-led life doesn't start when the people around you finally get it right. It starts the moment you stop outsourcing your worth to their approval and start making decisions rooted in what you actually need — your recovery nutrition, your rest, your boundaries as self-respect, your values.
This isn't about becoming isolated or unkind to the people you love. It's about no longer needing their permission to exist as a full person with needs of your own. Self-trust is what makes a self-led life possible — you can't lead yourself somewhere you don't believe you deserve to go.
Nobody is coming to finally choose you. You get to become the woman who chooses herself.
Where in your life are you still waiting for permission that was never going to come?
