How much of the wire is based on reality? I know the show is supposed to be loosely/vaguely based on what David Simon and Ed burns saw and wrote about it while living and working in Baltimore

But was there ever a gang disappearing people into vacant houses? Was there ever a “drug free” zone that was ever even proposed? Was there ever any proof of a real “new day co-op” between a group of dealers?
