§5 StAG application – does this mean my father has officially acquired German citizenship?

Hi everyone,

I received the following email from the BVA this morning regarding my father’s §5 StAG application:

My understanding is that this means his application has been fully processed and that the certificate (Urkunde) has been sent to the German Embassy in Tunis.

Does this wording mean that his §5 StAG declaration has been formally accepted and that he has officially acquired German citizenship?

Also, what normally happens next? Does the German Embassy contact him to collect the certificate, and can he then proceed directly with applying for a German passport?

For context, his application was received by the BVA in 2024 and he received the AK confirming receipt in April 2024. We haven’t received any requests for additional documents or other updates since then.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through the same process or received similar wording from the BVA.
