If someone took the One Ring and dropped it in the middle of the ocean, what would happen?

Howdy y’all, I haven’t read the books and it’s been a while since I’ve seen the movies, so I am a humble layman. I was wondering, if you dropped the One Ring in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (or the Middle Earth equivalent), what would happen? Would people or animals be drawn to it still? If not, would it know it’s fucked? Does it have any abilities that would be interesting in this scenario? I don’t remember all the traits and abilities of the Ring or Sauron so I’m very interested to hear some experts weigh in with what y’all think would happen.
