Daemon is kind of a bum…

It‘s not how I imagined the character in the books or necessarily how I want him to be, but I‘m slowly coming to the conclusion that Daemon is kind of a bum.

Matt Smith is a great actor, but the character itself hasn‘t really achieved anything of significance by himself.

He becomes King of the Narrow Sea, but he only wins because he follows Laenors Plan. When he was fighting the war his way, they were actually losing. He enters the Riverlands and is immediately disliked by basically anyone. He makes a stupid decision with the Brackens and is lucky that the Tully boy rallies the Rivermen after forcing Daemon to make amends.

In Season 3 we actually see him winning battles, but he‘s kind of playing in Easy Mode with Caraxes. Then we go to Tumbleton. Not only does he get his Ass kicked by Bold Jon, he‘s also extremely stupid riding head first into the castle and lucky that a 100 arrows aiming at the gate aren‘t hitting him.

He also plays a crucial part in alienating Ulf. And when looking at direct conversations, every time he meets someone who’s not afraid of him he loses that Exchange. Jeyne Arryn, Lord Tully, the Rivermen, Rhaenyra, etc.
