Transitioning to a floor bed

12–18 Months

Hi all. I’m at a loss so wanted to get other parents’ experiences. My 17 month old is a MONKEY. He is also on the very tall side for his age (at his 16 month appointment he was 32.5 inches and has grown since).

For a long stretch of time, our bedtimes were golden. We would read a book, he would help me turn the light off, and I would put him in his crib and he would go straight to sleep. I thought I won the sleep jackpot, honestly. Well in the last week he’s climbed out of his crib TWICE. Last night I put his mattress on the ground and had to go into his room several times throughout the night (ended up sleeping on the floor with him after his 4 am wake up 🫠).

I just bought him a new twin mattress and a floor bed frame. Has anyone else had to transition to a bed THIS early? I know the general recommendation is to wait as long as possible because they transition better (usually 2.5-3 years old) but we have no choice - it’s not safe for him in the crib anymore. If anyone could share what helped for them, I would be grateful 🙏 Thank you!
