Being Kindness Is Bad Thing?

Discussion :discuss:

Since around 2013, when I was studying in 5th standard, I started noticing something that stayed with me for years. At that age, I could learn things quite easily, especially when it came to studying and exams. Because of that, some people would come to me for help. At first, I thought they were simply being friendly or asking for help because they trusted me. But slowly, I started feeling like they were keeping me around mainly because I was useful to them. Almost every day, I would be bullied or made fun of, and yet I was still expected to help them with their studies, homework, or exams. It became a pattern: they could treat me badly, but when they needed something, suddenly I was important. Looking back, I sometimes wonder Was being kind a mistake? I don't think kindness itself is bad. But I do think there is a difference between being kind and allowing people to take advantage of you. If you are always helping someone who doesn't respect you, they may eventually stop seeing your kindness as kindness and start seeing it as something they are entitled to. Maybe the lesson isn't don't be kind.

Maybe it's Be kind, but have boundaries. Help people, but don't let them hurt you and then expect your help whenever they need it. I'm curious what others think. Have you ever experienced a situation where people were nice to you only because they needed something from you?
