Four customs/GST case studies that actually test whether you know the sections, not just the theory
Four fact patterns, no easy outs:
1. Three Reds in a row. First-time importer, costume jewellery from Bangkok, three straight RMS Red flags. Value is 12% under the NIDB benchmark, invoice just says "fashion accessories." What's actually triggering this, and what fixes it fast vs. long term?
2. Faceless, but examined. Importer thinks "faceless assessment" means no physical exam. It doesn't. Two queries already answered, goods still stuck at the terminal. Where's the real line between assessment and examination, and does SWIFT actually help here?
3. The refund route. ₹1.2 cr/quarter exporter, ₹2.1L net ITC, trying to decide between LUT and IGST-paid exports. AD Code is only registered at one of the two ports they use. Run the Rule 89(4) math and make the call.
4. The notice on the desk. SCN for ₹6.8L differential duty on consignments cleared 26 to 40 months ago, plus a ₹40K refund clawback from two years back. What's time-barred, what isn't, and does paying up early actually help?
Curious how others would reason through these. Drop your logic or section references below.
