Has anyone else seen butterflies since someone you loved passed away?
I am not a particularly spiritual person. I grew up Evangelical Christian, and while I believe in some of it, I wouldn’t consider myself religious. My mom passed away on June 20th from a sudden accident. Ever since, I’ve seen more butterflies in this month and a half than I’ve ever seen in my life. Primarily white and yellow.
Logically, I know I probably didn’t pay much attention to butterflies before this. I know yellow and white are probably common in the area of the world I’m in. But they find me when I need them. I was sobbing in my car at a red light and two came right on my windshield. When I got off the plane to my house after being at my family home for a month, I saw one. Leaving her celebration of life, I saw one. Even quiet moments like going for a cigarette, I see them. Nearly every day. I always feel a bittersweet feeling when I see them. Peace yet sadness.
Even a family friend told me a story of cleaning out a broken bottle of her wine leftover in her trailer (it’s a long story about the trailer). She took it out and placed it on the grass while she was doing something else. She said she looked over and three butterflies all sat on the bottle. She had three children.
I know it’s what I make of it, I can choose to believe it’s my mom or not. There’s no real answer. But I truly think it is her coming to check on me. Has anyone else seen them?
