Rescue blanket instead of ND filter for solar eclipse?

hi

is it possible to use a rescue blanket in front of the lens to protect the sensor of the camera when taking pictures of the solar eclipse?

I want to use a lens with relatively wide focal length (135mm max., maybe just 50mm) to capture the general scenery. Not a close up of the sun. The eclipse will be in the early evening around half past 7 until half past 8
