Golf R to GTI or GLI

Title says it all but basically I have some life changes that happened after I bought my Golf R less than a year ago. Getting a new house, divorce, etc. and want to lower my payment and possibly move to a GTI/GLI.

I had a 2024 GTI before the R so I am not worried about going back to it as it had more than enough power for me. I also am looking at a 2026 GLI as it would give me more space in the back for the kiddos but I have read about its shortcomings (tires and bad radio but doubt either would affect me) so not sure. I like both of them and the GLI is understated which is a positive. Any thoughts?
