Please help us for our research

I need to make a automated trashbin for 1week or so but we dont know what materials we need to buy, for sensor to detect PAPER, PLASTIC AND METAL. We will use Arduino Uno R3 for the brain of the trash bin. we need an advice what other materials we need for this research, also the types of sensors we need, thank you in advance!!
