I had just graduated college, finishing my business degree in 5 years instead of 4 because I took a year off to work to help my mom out with the bills.

My Mom had been single for years after my dad left us, working two jobs to pay the bills. We had a great relationship and have always been close. She had always made sure I had everything I needed even though money was tight. Much of the extra cash she made was saved up to surprise me with a vacation when I graduated.

After I walked across the stage and got my college diploma, she greeted me in the crowd to give me a hug and tell me how proud she was of me. Thats when she told me she had been saving for a vacation and handed me two plane tickets to a beach town we had never been too.

Over the next few days we planned all the tourist stuff we planned to do and got packed. Taking an Uber to the airport early the morning of departure, we went to the airport desk and gave our IDs. The woman looked at our IDs and noticed we had the same last name and assumed we were husband and wife. Greeting us as Mr. and Mrs. My mom began to correct her and say we were mother and son, but before she could, I jump in and say "just going on a little honeymoon to celebrate " My mom looked at me blushed and the woman at the counter congratulated us as we walked to the gate.

Im not even sure why I said that, it just came out of my mouth spontaneously, but it created a ripple affect on what would come from our vacation.
