Festus the Leechlord Finecast OOP (~2012) — hobby project or collectible?

Hobby

I recently bought a collection from someone who had left the miniature hobby, and among it was an opened but otherwise undamaged blister of the old Finecast Festus the Leechlord. The model itself is still completely unbuilt and on the sprue.

My daughter and I are still fairly beginner painters, and after looking Festus up I realised that older OOP sculpts can sometimes mean quite a lot to collectors.

Normally we'd just build it and have fun painting it, but this one has made me hesitate. It feels a little different knowing that once we cut it off the sprue and start painting, an untouched copy of an old sculpt is gone.

So I'm curious how people here would look at it:

Would you just build and paint it, or would you consider an untouched OOP Finecast model collectible enough to preserve/trade/pass on to a more experienced painter?

I've even wondered whether it could be fun to send it to a very good painter/YouTuber if someone wanted to turn the old Finecast sculpt into a painting/restoration video.

I'm not really asking how to maximise its monetary value. I'm more wondering whether I'm being overly cautious, or whether this is one of those models where it's worth thinking twice before treating it like any other grey plastic in the pile.
