Speech therapy in the hallway
I am encountering a dilemma with my school this year that our new “space” is to be in the hallway. The SLPA is full time servicing the kiddos, and I am her part time supervisor (Eval’s, IEPs, etc). There is a space in our SpEd room and we were denied it for unknown reasons. We are the only professionals who are in the hallway. There are no available rooms for us to go in, we are told.
Obviously this is an issue for students privacy, and not an effective learning environment. Kids are always out using the restroom, changing classes or going to specials. We requested a privacy wall/divider and were also denied. This space doesn’t even have outlets for our computers or access to a printer. We report to the assistant principal (also in charge of the sped department), so she is the one making all decisions.
We are supposed to start pulling kids starting next week. How else can I problem solve this? I am really uncomfortable about the situation, not to mention feeling completely undervalued and not heard.
