Is it possible that I might face discrimination if I move to southern Brazil?

Culture

F24. I’m an Italian student, and next year I’ll (likely) be going on an exchange program to a Brazilian university. I don’t know exactly where I’ll end up yet—since the rankings haven't been released—but the options are either São Paulo or Santa Catarina.

My mother is Brazilian, and I have a somewhat "ambiguous" look. I think I could easily pass for someone from Southern Italy; I’ve never had any issues of that kind here, after all.

However, I’ve heard there is a lot of discrimination in southern Brazil, and I’d hate to face any "unpleasant" treatment. What I’ve heard is just hearsay, though, so I’d like to know your opinion.
