Advice
I have worked with this family for almost 4 years. They are kind and I genuinely like them. I have gone above and beyond my job scope many times to be helpful and I know that’s my own fault but now job creep has happened. I like a very tidy space. It’s just how I am so I typically full vacuum and mop the floors every week and will use the portable vacuum several times a week and always after meals to keep the kitchen crumb free. I’ve also had to clean the bathrooms bc they were dirty and I don’t want to use them that way. The issue is now if I don’t do these things. They won’t get done. Some other things…many Mondays I come in to the entire weekends laundry that needs to be folded and put away. The parents never empty the dishwasher (but take dishes they need out in the morning). So I come in to having to empty a dishwasher before I can put breakfast dishes in. Parents leave stuff in sink from night before if the dishwasher was running before they used it. They typically make breakfast for themselves and kids and leave the entire breakfast mess for me to clean up. When they work from home the mom will have meals and if she heats something up will leave everything on the counter (not even in the sink). When she’s done she will bring Al her dirty dishes down and leave them on the counter. It feels like they have begun to take me for granted. They basically have a nanny and maid all in one. Also when I increased my days I took a cut in pay to give them a little financial break so they were both able to WORK so it’s frustrating that I’m paid less and doing more than ever. I know that they aren’t asking me to pick up the slack but they also know by doing the things they do I won’t leave it. This is literally 80% the mom and not the dad (the only thing he will leave is the bowl he used to heat up the boys food and he’s the last to leave so I guess the dishwasher). For what I get paid and the conversation I had when I took the cut in pay I didn’t expect to be working when a parent was home or so they could go do whatever while having me work sick so they can take a nap. It’s been a lot lately and I’m feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. I’m quite a bit older than the parents and work with 2 kids under 4. I know some of this is my own fault but before it becomes too much and I can’t continue I need to address it. Thoughts? Also please be kind. I know the parents pay me to be here and if they want to nap they can but when they asked me to take a cut in pay for more hours and I agreed so they were both able to continue to work there schedules I didn’t expect to be used for other things at the same rate.(totally my fault) also this wasn’t an issue when they were babies it just started over the past couple years when they got harder to deal with.
