Beginner with BFS

Can anyone give a summary of what BFS is actually used for vs just using a spinning rod? I’m going to be fishing on a creek bank that’s relatively shallow and want to have the capability to cover a lot of area without moving. I’m not targeting any fish species specifically.

Also, can anyone explain the difference in what is needed for rod lengths and qualities? I was looking at getting an Ark Gravity BFS setup since that seemed to be good for beginner users (I’ve never used a baitcaster before.)

The technique seems interesting, but a little daunting with all the different line types and sizes of equipment. Help is appreciated! Thanks!
