Something feels odd to me about all this

Discussion

Is it just me or is the response to this all incredibly rash and poorly thought out? Idk how the obvious choice wouldn't be to:

  1. Say what happened, distance themselves and/or stop development if they want (100% reasonable)

  2. Upload local copies of the code in a public git repo

  3. Upload local copies of mod assets to the git repo

  4. Accept pull requests from the owner of an asset replacing it with a placeholder

  5. Archive the repo after a bit of time and let everyone else sort through the mess

  6. Handle all the emotions/backlash in their own ways over time instead of making it a huge headache for everyone that wasn't involved

  7. Negotiate with patreon about how to get the developers paid and/or donations refunded while holding ozzatron accountable for stealing the funds

I refuse to believe that an entire team of developers lacks a single copy of the code they were working on. If it's unfinished, unpolished, or somehow only their current working copy, then fine w/e let people sort that out themselves. If artists can't even handle having their already public work uploaded to a git page w/ the option of removing it then tbh they had no business making the work public for such a massive project in the first place. If the pedo brigade wants to try and contest it all then I wish them luck finding any way to make actionable legal demands about the "copyright" of mods to a game they don't own or ozzatron's LLC or whatever while being beligerent children holding the funds for ransom. Screw making maintenance updates, unless they really want to then it would be easiest for everyone to just let passionate fans sort that out. If the mod dies after all that then it can do so organically rather than being taken out and shot behind the shed because creeps shockingly managed to worm their way into a massive community, truly unheard of in online spaces
