Education loan refusing to cover living expenses
I (20M) am a 3rd year cs student at a tier 2 college in india. My 3rd year (5th sem) started a couple of weeks ago and from this sem, I've moved out of the college accommodation and am renting a 2BHK flat with a friend of mine as seniors in our college usually arent accommodated in hostels with the exception of high CGPA achievers.
I am on an education loan from union bank of india from my second year onwards (2025 - current) and the bank currently covers my tuition fee and apartment rent. The issue I am facing right now is that the bank is absolutely refusing to cover my personal costs (living expenses, food, personal expenditure) as they are only willing to transfer money to an institute and NOT to an individuals bank account. Since I dont live in campus anymore, I dont have a mess and need to either order food, cook meals or subscribe to a local meal plan in my area.
My living expenses in hostel used to be 3-4k a month which my dad would cover as my major expense (food) was covered by the bank due to my registration with a mess. However after moving out, I need to finance food and living costs on my own which brings up my monthly expenses to approx 10-15k (ballpark figure) which is a huge amount that my father absolutely cannot continue financing for the rest of the year.
I have appealed to the bank 100s of times and so has my father, but they say that they cannot do anything to cover my living expenses. I dont know what next steps to take and its stressing me out as 15k a month is not financially sustainable for my father. Even if I budget to the most extreme extent, my monthly expenses will come to 10k.
Please advise me on what I can do next. I am very wary of personal loans as the interest rates are too high.
Any suggestions are helpful, I need to sort this money issue asap as it is stressing me out very much and I am unable to focus on anything else.
Thanks in advance.
