I asked God for direction on a relationship proposal and said no. Now someone claims I lost my "last chance." Did I do the right thing?
Hi everyone. I would really appreciate your insight, biblical advice, and prayers regarding a situation I went through recently that has been weighing heavily on my heart.
I’ve been getting to know a guy (let's call him M.) for about 4 months. Two weeks ago, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Instead of accepting right away, I made a commitment to pray: I asked God for clear direction and decided I would follow whatever answer He gave me.
There were a few important practical factors to consider:
Age gap: He is 11 years older than I am.
Life background: He has three daughters from two previous marriages that didn't work out.
Even though he is a good and caring person, I realized that entering a setup with this level of complexity could lead to major complications down the road. My parents also advised me not to proceed and to wait on God rather than rush into anything.
After seeking God in prayer and asking for clear signs, the answer I felt strongly in my heart was a no—to decline the proposal and not move forward. Based on that and my family's counsel, I declined his proposal and closed that chapter respectfully and maturely. He accepted and respected my decision.
The issue is that a person I didn't even know came up to me claiming to have a "revelation" that he was meant for me. Because of that, I went back to prayer and asked God for one final confirmation. The answer in my heart remained the same: do not accept.
When this person found out I had declined, they told me that I was "missing out on a great opportunity" and that "there might never be anyone else coming into my life."
I am 27 years old, and I admit that hearing those words triggered my anxiety and brought up a fear of the future—even though I know I acted in obedience to the answer I received in prayer.
I would love to get your perspective:
Did I do the right thing by prioritizing the peace/answer I received in prayer and practical wisdom over this external "revelation"?
How do I deal with the fear of "ending up alone" planted by comments like that?
Thank you so much to anyone who can share a word of wisdom, biblical counsel, or a quick prayer for my heart.
