RO transfer

Are intern return offers ever transferable between practice areas? I don’t particularly enjoy the work that I did this summer and received conflicting advice when on coffee chats with people in various other areas which I would enjoy more. How common/feasible is this? Any advice on how to approach that conversation would be appreciated: I don’t want to ask in a way which would jeopardize my current offer given how cooked the job market is so I want to be delicate.
