Flatmate search advice
Context- Hi, we are 3 girls living in an old apartment in south Dublin. Luckily, our 3 bed house comes with 3 bathrooms making it quite handy and is cheap compared to the market. One of the girls is moving out and we are looking for a substitue for her. Since the rent is only €700 for an ensuite room, a lot of the girls reaching out to the girl moving out are worried this might be a scam or the place might be in a really bad shape. Which makes sense.
Now the question - Since the room of the girl moving out is adjoining mine, and for 4 years I have had to live while she spoke to her family members all day and hardly ever works or goes to office (god knows what her job is), I am a little particular about what I don't want in the flatmate. I asked the girl to ask a list of questions from the girls coming for a viewing and she sent it on to a few who denied replying before the viewing. My point is, I can understand from their point of view if this is a concern but at the same time I don't want to have a viewing with everyone. And as the person looking for a flatmate aren't we allowed to ask questions.
These are the questions that I had originally prepared:
-
Name:
-
Date of birth:
-
Occupation/ where do you work?:
-
How many days a week do you normally work from the office?
-
What does a typical weekday look like for you?
-
What do you normally do at weekends?
-
How long are you looking to stay?
-
Why are you moving, and where have you lived previously?
-
Have you lived with flatmates before? If so, what was the experience like?
-
What are you looking for in a flat-share?
-
How often do you usually have friends or a partner over?
-
How often would you expect to have overnight guests?
-
What time do you usually go to bed and wake up?
-
Are you generally quiet at night?
-
Do you smoke or vape?
-
How do you usually approach cleaning and shared chores?
-
Do you cook regularly?
Now I am thinking a good approach might be to ask these questions after the viewing if we wish to go ahead. And initially just ask a bit about work and daily schedule?
