Stock photos or own photos?

I sell some home ware and deco bits that I get from wholesalers and I am allowed to use their stock photos for the listings which is handy. But I started to wonder if buyers prefer more real life photos that aren't so "perfect"? What are your experiences as a seller and how do you feel as a buyer when there's no "real" photo of an item? When the items are shown on stream they sell well for the BIN price, but not many people seem to buy directly from my BIN at all. Just wanting to get some opinions before I unbox and photograph everything.
