So I’m someone who saw Once Human about a year ago and thought it was extremely interesting. I downloaded it on my phone but after seeing there was no controller support I uninstalled immediately and counted my losses.
With console release coming this month I’m extremely excited to finally be able to play this game. But with that being said I’ve been watching youtube videos to help me understand it so I don’t get overwhelmed day 1 and one thing has stuck out to me…
I genuinely cannot tell if this community loves or hates Once Human. I’ll see a bunch of comments praising the game and saying how eventually it gets stale (as all games do) but then I’ll see others completely shitting on it and saying it’s a dead game that isn’t worth digging into. Whether it’s the permanent servers not having players or the game being jank, y’all have to understand what this does to console players like me looking into it.
YOU are actively keeping people from the game. This is going to be a first time experience for every single console player and if people looking it up mainly see “jank, bad UI, boring game, no endgame, etc” with nothing positive in that same comment, they are going to stop looking.
I’m a fairly hardcore gamer, i understand the frustration of something you love playing losing your interest after a certain time, but there will be MILLIONS of new people who see this game in the “free to play” section of their store and they WILL look at videos on it to see if it’s worth playing, and if they see more comments actively shitting on the game rather than praising it, they very likely WILL NOT PLAY.
Y’all have to understand that a community has just as much impact as the developers do with player count specifically. The console catalog is completely different from PC and if you want to repopulate your game you have to stop shooting it in the foot. Don’t go comment on a “is it worth it on console” video with the problems you have after playing it for 100s of hours on PC, let notice these problems and then we can have a discussion about it.
I’m just so tired of seeing communities blame the developers for player count when they have an active role in maintaining it. Yes, games can be jank. Yes, games can suffer from a monotonous endgame. Yes, games can be a UI simulator, but it’s a free game with a mobile port, 90% of them are. The thing is that WE as console players tend to expect that, or at least I do.
Anyways, I’m excited to play and I appreciate any gameplay tips or “wish i knew sooner” down below <3
TLDR; I’m really excited for Once Human on console, but the constant negativity like I’ve seen on videos makes it hard for new players to see why the game is worth playing. Criticism is fine, but don’t scare away potential players before they even get to experience it.
