Quick read of "Attention Is All You Need "

I avoided reading Attention Is All You Need for a long time.

Not because it was unimportant.
Because it looked intimidating.

But once I started breaking it down, the core idea felt surprisingly simple:

Instead of processing words strictly one by one, the model lets each token look at other tokens and decide what matters.

That is the heart of attention.

A word does not understand itself in isolation.
It understands itself through context.

In “The animal didn’t cross the street because it was tired”, attention helps the model connect “it” with the right idea.

That simple mechanism became the base for Transformers, GPT models, BERT, modern LLMs, and most of the AI tools we use today.

My rough takeaway so far:

Training gives the model patterns.
Attention gives the model context.

I’m reading the paper slowly and turning it into simple notes.

Not expert notes.
Learning notes.
