Little Women poem "My Beth" pronunciation of "become"

Literature

The final stanza of Jo March's poem to her sister, Beth has an abcb rhyme scheme that matches the rhyme scheme of the whole poem. However, the last two "b" lines end in "become" and "home. " Does anyone have any insight into how this would have been pronounced? My theory is that pronouncing "become" with a long "O" sound was common.
