Are the down down inputs super inconsistent for anyone else?

i've gotten to the point now where i just use quickskill for the down down specials. they fixed dp after the beta and that feels fine now. but like a third of the time i want a down down special i just end up with a button instead. and i have no clue why just looking at the inputs in training

and i'm on leverless, so inputting down twice is super effortless. the buffer is just super finicky and annoying
